ebtcOfficial sources conflict
Identity and the May 2026 exploit are documented, but post-incident sources do not fully reconcile current circulating supply, backing for remaining eBTC, bridge availability, mint caps, administrator structure, and redemption. Current product safety therefore remains conflicting.
What is eBTC?
This eBTC is Echo Protocol's Bitcoin representation on Monad and is separate from Echo's Aptos aBTC and the Badger-backed Ethereum eBTC. CoinGecko maps ebtc-2 to the Monad contract 0xd691b0afed67f96cec28ab6308cbe5b2c103b7e9.
What problem does eBTC solve?
On 2026-05-18 a compromised administrator granted minting rights and created 1,000 eBTC without collateral. About 45 were used against Curvance to extract real WBTC; Echo later reported revoked privileges, upgraded controls, paused cross-chain operations, and burned the remaining 955.
How does eBTC work?
eBTC depends on controlled minting and cross-chain backing rather than a permissionless native-Bitcoin peg. The incident showed a single administrator could assign uncapped mint authority, so current multisig, cap, backing, bridge, and redemption state must be checked directly.
