The ticker confusion was the product

A Meme Coin launched on September 3, 2026. Its identity is currently recorded in two conflicting ways: CoinGecko labels the address AMC, while the contract returns MEME. The project account states the relationship directly as “MEME paired with AMC,” identifying MEME as the token and AMC as the quote side. The token borrows the cultural history around a cinema stock and a brokerage, yet the chain creates neither cinema shares nor Robinhood sponsorship—only a separate meme token priced in another token.

The name was designed to be read twice

The pinned account post starts with AMC’s 2021 retail-trading moment, when a cinema ticker drew new users to brokerage apps. It then jumps five years forward to Robinhood’s stock-token push and declares that the “theater was a front.” This is the project’s own promotional frame, not an account from AMC Entertainment.

Its contract makes the punch line precise. The asset transferred by wallets is MEME. AMC is the paired quote asset. CoinGecko’s AMC label collapses the two and creates a practical risk: a reader can mistake the meme for the stock reference that prices it.

One transaction built supply and market

At 20:30:05 UTC, a launch call initialized the clone, minted one billion MEME and routed almost all of it into market setup. Only 238 base units remained after rounding, and the receipt shows those units sent to a dead address.

The token delegates execution to one fixed implementation. It can be burned and can record delegated voting weight. Its owner is a launch-system contract with transfer and renunciation machinery, while standard later-mint, pause, unpause and upgrade selectors were absent. That nonzero owner conflicts with o1’s broad ‘no owner’ description.

A trading pair is grammar, not collateral

“MEME paired with AMC” tells a trader which asset sits on the other side of the market. When someone buys MEME, the pool receives AMC-denominated tokens; when someone sells, the pool returns them according to its price and liquidity. It does not promise that each MEME can be redeemed for a fixed quantity of AMC.

The launch post uses AMC’s 2021 episode and Robinhood’s later stock-token rollout as promotional material. No reviewed source shows that either company commissioned, endorsed, licensed or controls the meme token.

Vote accounting exists, but governance rules do not

Delegation and past-vote functions make MEME compatible with vote-counting applications. The reviewed project profile and canonical links, however, publish no proposal portal, quorum, treasury mandate or rule saying a token vote controls the project.

That gap matters because the named operator is missing too. The launch sender is an address and ownership sits with a system contract. Until a legal entity or governance charter appears, the account’s narrative and the token’s technical capabilities should be read as separate layers.

What is A Meme Coin?

A Meme Coin is the Robinhood Chain token at 0x385f4f8ae47651ce5f58f5265395a669f8281e18. The live contract names it “A Meme Coin” and gives it the symbol MEME. CoinGecko instead records AMC, but the project profile resolves the intended wordplay: “$MEME paired with $AMC.”

It is a meme market built around the collision between AMC Entertainment’s retail-trading history and Robinhood’s stock-token initiative. The pairing uses an AMC-denominated token as the quote side. It does not turn MEME into AMC equity, a receipt for that stock token, or an official product of either company.

What problem does A Meme Coin solve?

The creators did not promise software or a new network. They chose a ticker puzzle. AMC’s 2021 retail episode had already linked a cinema chain, an online crowd and Robinhood in public memory. The account’s September 2026 launch post reused that triangle while introducing Robinhood’s stock-token rollout.

That makes identification harder than the usual same-name problem. “A Meme Coin” is marketed through AMC, CoinGecko calls it AMC, but the chain calls it MEME. A biography that repeats only the aggregator ticker would misstate what wallets actually transfer.

How does A Meme Coin work?

The September 3 launch transaction created a minimal-clone token and an onchain market on Robinhood Chain. It minted exactly one billion MEME with 18 decimals. The receipt routed all but 238 base units through pool setup and sent that rounding remainder to a dead address. o1’s launch documentation describes completed-launch liquidity positions as permanent.

The clone points permanently to implementation 0x3be8…c599. The live token returns a launch-system contract, 0xeb7c…0862, as owner, and the implementation contains ownership-transfer, renunciation, holder-burn, vote-delegation and historical-vote functions. Standard later-mint, pause, unpause and upgrade selectors were absent. The nonzero owner conflicts with o1’s broad statement that Robinhood launches have “no owner,” although the reviewed owner surface does not add those supply or transfer controls. Vote accounting is a capability, not proof that a DAO or binding proposal process exists.

Its market is quoted in an AMC stock token. Buying MEME exchanges the quote asset for a separate meme token; it does not preserve a redeemable AMC balance. References to AMC Entertainment and Robinhood are the project account’s promotional narrative. The reviewed sources identify no endorsement, affiliation, legal issuer, holder agreement or IP licence from either company.

Frequently asked questions

Is the ticker AMC or MEME?

The contract returns MEME and the project profile says “$MEME paired with $AMC.” CoinGecko currently catalogs the same address under AMC, so wallets and explorers should follow the contract symbol.

Is this AMC Entertainment stock?

No. MEME is a separate meme token. Trading it against an AMC stock token does not grant shares, dividends, corporate votes or redemption into AMC stock.

When was it launched?

The mint and market setup occurred on Robinhood Chain at 20:30:05 UTC on September 3, 2026.

Can the supply grow?

One billion tokens were minted at initialization. The reviewed implementation exposes burn but no later mint entry point.

Does vote delegation mean holders govern the project?

No published DAO or binding proposal system was found. Delegation and past-vote functions only record token voting weight for any application that may choose to use it.

Who runs A Meme Coin?

Addresses for the launch sender and owner contracts are visible, but the canonical profile does not name a human team or operating company.
