MEW sold an underdog story before it sold utility

A white cat entered a market crowded with dog coins and made the imbalance its plot. MEW then carried that plot into animation, conventions, clothes, an app and a DAO. The Solana token is technically simple; the harder questions—who operates the brand and what a vote controls—remain undocumented.

The project’s launch date and LBank’s opening differ by a day

MEW’s official store dates the project to March 25, 2024. LBank’s “world premiere” opened deposits and MEW/USDT trading on March 26. That difference is useful rather than contradictory: one is the project’s launch label, the other is a precisely timed market opening. No reviewed official project page names the founders or a legal entity behind the launch.

The idea was deliberately legible. Dogecoin and Shiba Inu had made dogs the default animal of memecoin culture; MEW cast a lone white cat as the underdog in their territory. “For too long dogs have ruled the world” became both slogan and market thesis. It promised no protocol breakthrough. It offered a rival character and a community joke that could continue as a story.

Liquidity became the launch promise

The home page prints three launch numbers: 88,888,888,888 total MEW, 90% “Burned LP,” and 10% airdropped to the Solana community. “Burned LP” refers to the liquidity-provider position or tokens, not to destroying 90% of MEW itself.

The official pages do not link the pool address, burn transaction or airdrop recipient ledger, so the initial allocation remains a project claim. Current supply is 3,409,335.99536 MEW below the advertised total, but a present-day balance cannot show whether the headline was ever minted in full, identify any burner or reconstruct the original allocation path.

The meme learned to tell episodes

In July 2024, a LOCUS partnership gave the rebellion names and geography. MEW lives among rats in Dog City; the corporation SHIBEX and its boss Shibatoni rule the world. The planned 3D series was an attempt to turn a ticker into character IP. The site’s Mew Tales archive also published short, reflective panels rather than technical updates.

The brand then crossed into physical culture. Anime NYC hosted a MEW booth and giant claw machine in August 2024. A July 2025 Market Studios launch in Los Angeles sold clothing and a keychain. These events document convention appearances, merchandise production and retail activity. They do not make token holders owners of the character, studio series or merchandise revenue.

The app and DAO added verbs to holding

On August 21, 2025, MEW announced a mobile app for episodes, drops, tasks and rewards and separately announced a Realms DAO where holders could create and vote on proposals. Those were concrete attempts to add actions around the coin after launch. The current homepage still says the app is “Coming soon,” however, so ongoing availability and reward rules are not reliably documented there.

The project announcement says holders can create and vote on proposals concerning community initiatives and token utility. It does not specify quorum, voting weights, controlled treasury accounts or whether a result binds the off-chain brand operator. The linked Realms page shows a voting venue, not legal authority over the IP or company.

Issuance is closed, but the institution stays out of view

MEW uses Solana’s original SPL Token Program, not a custom application contract. A finalized mainnet reading returned five decimals, 88,885,479,552.00464 outstanding, and no mint or freeze authority. Those revoked roles cannot issue more MEW or freeze token accounts. Account owners and approved delegates can still transfer or burn balances under the standard program, so supply can fall.

The remaining uncertainty belongs to the character’s off-chain world. The reviewed official pages do not name its operator or publish an issuer-authored holder agreement; the 2026 MiCA paper prepared by Anycoin.cz operator MP developers s.r.o. from public data does not fill that gap. MEW has carried its white cat from Dog City to real-world audiences. The DAO now raises a more specific question: can a vote change that character world, and who is obliged to act on the result? The reviewed rules do not establish that connection.

What is cat in a dogs world?

cat in a dogs world (MEW) is a legacy SPL token and character brand built around a white cat resisting a world ruled by dog coins.

What problem does cat in a dogs world solve?

Dog-themed memecoins dominated the category. MEW created a simple rival mascot and then tried to keep attention through stories and culture beyond the original trade.

How does cat in a dogs world work?

Standard SPL accounts hold and transfer MEW. The canonical mint has no mint or freeze authority, although account owners may burn their own balances. Off-chain teams run the site, IP partnerships, store and app; Realms hosts proposals and votes without a published mandate over the brand or treasury.

Frequently asked questions

Can more MEW be minted?

The canonical mint authority is null, so the standard mint cannot issue more.

Can an issuer freeze MEW wallets?

The canonical freeze authority is null.

Was 90% of MEW supply burned?

No. The official wording describes the liquidity position as burned; current supply remains about 88.885 billion.

What does holding MEW legally own?

No issuer-authored agreement granting equity, intellectual-property, revenue or product rights was found in the reviewed materials.

Does MEW govern the brand?

A Realms DAO was announced, but its binding scope and treasury powers are not published.

Is the mobile app currently available?

A 2025 post says yes while the current homepage says coming soon, so availability remains uncertain.

Who created MEW?

The reviewed official pages do not name founders or a legal operator.
