Chiliz Chain is a BNB Smart Chain-derived EVM network using Proof of Staked Authority. Main validators take turns producing blocks; candidate validators wait outside the producing set. A prospective validator must stake at least 10,000,000 CHZ, pass Chiliz Labs' off-chain vetting and win approval from existing validators. Delegation starts at 0.01 CHZ. The governance contract follows a Compound Alpha-style model: validator owners vote with weight based on their total delegated stake, and proposals require a two-thirds quorum.
The CHZ white paper dates Dragon8 implementation to May 6, 2024. The official outage report instead records a failed May 21 activation and rollback; a later announcement scheduled reactivation for June 17, and Chiliz reported the fork live on June 18. These records conflict: the June 18 article is a completion report, not independent proof of the exact activation timestamp. Dragon8 replaced the fixed initial issue with protocol inflation. The schedule began at 8.80% annually and declines toward a permanent 1.88% floor after year 14. Of newly issued CHZ, 65% goes to validators and their delegators after commission, 10% to community-vault, liquidity or shared-security uses, and 25% to ecosystem and operational distribution. Most base gas fees are burned, but burn does not impose a maximum supply; net supply depends on issuance and chain usage.
Core powers are separated into the published system contracts for staking, governance, chain configuration and runtime upgrades. Pepper8 shows how change occurs in practice. Validators approved and installed a September 2025 client fork that credited PRB holders through a state transition, then lowered years 3–7 inflation so the year-8 path rejoined Dragon8's schedule.
