The cap shrank; the Treasury grew

HydraDX changed its public name without replacing its native ballot. The decisive change happened in the ledger: voters erased 3.5 billion planned coins, then a Root vote minted almost 1.86 billion allocated coins into Treasury. HDX became a vote over both the pool and the supply used to fill it.

Two migrations that should not be confused

On 2022-07-06, Snakenet stopped at block 6,021,116 and its state moved to the Polkadot parachain. Selected LBP, staking and Treasury balances were tripled under an earlier vote; team and investor allocations were excluded.

In 2024, governance approved the HydraDX-to-Hydration name. HDX stayed native asset ID 0, and no official rename record describes a holder token swap.

The pool's hub is not HDX

Omnipool routes listed assets through internal H2O, formerly LRNA. A provider may add one asset rather than match a pair.

Dynamic fees, caps, oracle comparisons and governance listings bound that convenience. H2O is internal accounting, not a dollar redemption promise.

The maximum was a vote

HDX began with a defined maximum of 10 billion. Executed referendum 7 cut Growth from 5,295,662,772 to 1,795,662,772 and recorded 6.5 billion.

The maximum is approved monetary policy under the current runtime. Root can change chain state and code, so it is not demonstrated as an immutable external guarantee.

Treasury made the missing supply visible

Executed Root 101 minted about 1,857,911,914 allocated-but-unissued HDX to Treasury. It projected 6,421,833,548 issued and about 78,166,452 left for unclaimed LBP participants.

The same call scheduled 39 liquidity additions over 13 weeks totaling about 154,810,224 HDX. Treasury recognition was not a pro-rata distribution to holders.

The ballot has an emergency corridor

Every HDX holder may propose and vote; Root can perform any action including a runtime upgrade.

The appointed Technical Committee can whitelist a faster Root call and pause Omnipool actions by asset. Separately, referendum 200 documents a council-controlled Ethereum multisig, qualifying first-party prose that says there are no multisig intermediaries.

GIGAHDX binds yield, votes and debt

GIGAHDX is a staked-HDX pool share. Protocol rewards may raise the HDX represented per share, and eligible conviction voting can add rewards. The June 2026 v49 release published code for the feature set; current staking documentation separately describes GIGAHDX as available. The release date alone does not establish its on-chain activation date.

It can collateralize HOLLAR and be liquidated. An exit creates HDX locked at least 28 days, with governance locks able to extend the wait.

The legal subject is still incomplete

Docs carry an Intergalactic, Inc. copyright, code sits under Galactic Council, and security mail uses intergalactic.limited. These identify contributors, not a complete issuer map.

Reviewed records grant on-chain voting and code-defined staking conversion. They do not grant equity, fixed-value redemption, Treasury/POL title or contractual performance by those organizations.

Referendum 7 removes 3.5B Growth allocation.

  3. 2024-03
    The rebrand wins

    Community reporting records approval.

  4. 2024-06
    Hydration becomes public name

    Technical hydradx identifiers remain.

  5. 2025
    Treasury receives pending allocation

Root 101 mints ~1.858B and schedules liquidity.

  6. 2026-06

Evidence and primary sources

What is Hydration?

HDX is the 12-decimal native asset ID 0 of Hydration, the Polkadot appchain formerly called HydraDX. It is not an ERC-20 contract. It votes in OpenGov, directs Treasury and protocol-owned liquidity policy, and enters staking.

Its history has two separate transitions: a real state migration from Snakenet to the parachain on 2022-07-06, and a 2024 public rebrand that kept HDX. Technical hydradx names remain in the current node and RPC.

What problem does Hydration solve?

Omnipool gathers many cross-chain assets into one liquidity machine. Its internal H2O/LRNA hub and single-asset positions reduce fragmented pairs, but listing, caps, fees, oracle checks and emergency pauses converge in one runtime.

HDX is both the ballot for that machinery and a Treasury asset. Voting grants influence over a collective system, not personal ownership of Treasury coins, protocol-owned liquidity or the organizations maintaining code.

How does Hydration work?

Omnipool accounts for swaps through internal H2O/LRNA. Current dynamic fees fund LP, referral and staking flows; H2O protocol fees are partly burned and partly sent to Treasury. OpenGov may alter parameters and spending, and Root may replace runtime logic.

Staking produces GIGAHDX, a pool share whose HDX redemption rate can grow with protocol rewards. It keeps HDX-denominated voting power and can secure HOLLAR debt, creating liquidation risk. Unstaking returns HDX under at least a 28-day transfer lock. These are protocol mechanics, not a corporate dividend or guaranteed yield.

Key facts

  • Native asset ID 0; 12 decimals; no canonical ERC-20 contract.
  • Snakenet stopped at block 6,021,116 on 2022-07-06.
  • The 2024 rebrand did not require an HDX swap.
  • Omnipool's hub is H2O/LRNA, not HDX.
  • The initial defined maximum was 10,000,000,000 HDX.
  • Referendum 7 reduced it to 6,500,000,000.
  • Root 101 minted about 1,857,911,914 HDX to Treasury.
  • It projected 6,421,833,548 issued and about 78,166,452 unclaimed LBP HDX.
  • It scheduled 39 LP additions over 13 weeks totaling about 154,810,224 HDX.
  • All HDX holders may propose and vote.
  • Root can upgrade runtime; Technical Committee can whitelist and pause.
  • GIGAHDX exits lock HDX at least 28 days.
  • GIGAHDX can secure HOLLAR and be liquidated.
  • No reviewed instrument grants equity, fixed redemption or Treasury ownership.

Frequently asked questions

Was a new token issued for the Hydration name?

No. The 2024 change kept HDX; the actual state migration was the separate 2022 move to the parachain.

Is 6.5 billion immutable?

It is the governance-approved defined maximum. Root 101 shows allocated supply could be minted and Root can change runtime state.

Does HDX own Omnipool assets?

No. Voting does not create a pro-rata redemption claim on pool or Treasury assets.

What is GIGAHDX?

A staked-HDX pool share that supports voting and HOLLAR collateral, with variable rewards and liquidation risk.

Can it exit immediately?

Returned HDX is locked at least 28 days and conviction locks may extend that period.

Who can change Hydration?

OpenGov and Root control runtime actions; the Technical Committee can accelerate whitelisted calls and pause assets.

What legal claim exists?

Reviewed sources show protocol rights but no equity, fixed redemption, Treasury title or issuer performance promise.
