WEMIX

On 22 November 2019, Wemade Tree presented WEMIX as a game platform with a wallet and marketplace. Its pitch was practical: replace the more than ten wallet-and-purchase steps common in early blockchain games with a two-step sign-in, then bring eight games based on Wemade intellectual property during 2020. The token was part of that distribution plan, not yet the gas coin of an independent chain.

MIR4 Global supplied the proof of reach. Wemade’s investor material dates its WEMIX-enabled launch to 26 August 2021 in 170 countries and 12 languages. A game with an existing audience could introduce token economics at a scale the original platform announcement had only promised.

WEMIX PLAY opened on 1 July 2022 around games and game tokens. Four months later, on 20 October, WEMIX3.0 produced its genesis block. The new EVM-compatible network made WEMIX its native gas and payment coin; the Klaytn-era token became WEMIX Classic and required migration.

The same name concealed operational boundaries. The 15 November 2022 PLAY notice scheduled the end of WEMIX CREDIT-to-Classic exchange and a replacement bridge between p.WEMIX and native WEMIX after that work. It announced a sequence, rather than confirming its completion. A player could encounter one brand across a native coin, an older token and a bridge representation, each subject to different chain and service rules.

Only a week after genesis, DAXA exchanges warned WEMIX over the difference between expected and actual circulation. On 24 November 2022 they decided to terminate trading support. WEMIX disputed the decision, but its own response acknowledged that internal operations had not been fully systematic and described corrections involving collateralized tokens, a prior burn and foundation wallet transfers.

That episode changed the question around WEMIX. The chain could validate blocks correctly while the market still lacked confidence in how foundation-controlled balances were classified and disclosed. Supply became an operational record to be explained, not merely a number in a whitepaper.

On 1 July 2024 the Brioche hard fork burned 434,093,952.16 WEMIX from the foundation reserve. It fixed a 590 million maximum and replaced the original constant one-WEMIX-per-block schedule with halvings every 63,115,200 blocks. The change directly answered the concentration and inflation inherited from the one-billion-token migration design.

Brioche did not turn governance over to every wallet. In Phase 2, identified Node Council Partners operate the authority set and decide proposals with more than 50% approval. Delegated stake can change rewards and validator weight, while the promised open top-40 PoS set remains an undated Phase 3.

On 28 February 2025, an attacker withdrew about 8,654,860 WEMIX from the PLAY Bridge Vault. WEMIX later announced a KRW 10 billion buyback and said foundation holdings would restore the withdrawn bridge assets. The bridge resumed on 21 March after replacement of keys, migration of infrastructure and expanded monitoring.

WEMIX began by removing steps between a player and a blockchain game; after the mainnet migration and bridge transition, users instead had to know exactly which WEMIX they held and which operator-controlled route carried it.
