Score SN44: one alpha followed three different video businesses

A buyer of Score alpha did not buy one fixed machine-learning job. The same subnet first asked who would win a football match, then where every player and ball appeared on screen, and later which model could turn many kinds of live footage into useful records. The market identity stayed with netuid 44 while the operator rewrote the work that earned its emissions.

The first product could wait for the scoreboard

The Score Predict README describes a football prediction market, but the repository’s earliest August 8, 2023 commit belongs to the inherited Bittensor Subnet Template. That generic example rewarded numerical responses, so its date does not establish when Score’s football product began. In the later football design, miners had twelve seconds to choose home win, away win or draw. Validators waited for the completed match, compared predictions with the result and set weights for accurate miners.

A fan app pooled human picks into one miner and promised to recycle its TAO rewards into points and weekly prizes. That consumer promotion belonged to the app; it did not give later SN44 alpha holders a claim on prizes or company revenue.

Score Vision traded an easy answer for a harder product

The next repository shifted the reward from a final score to game-state recognition. Miners had to locate and track players, the ball, referees and goalkeepers across football video; validators sampled frames and checked geometry and semantic labels.

That output could support analytics from the footage itself, but the cost changed too: miners needed suitable GPUs, while validators depended on selected frames and external model-assisted checks. The token stayed on subnet 44 even though the purchased work was no longer a forecast.

TurboVision made the assignment editable

TurboVision broadened the pitch from football tracking to live video and imagery. Instead of hard-coding one contest, its task list defines separate elements with their own schedule, look-back window, reference method and portion of the final weight.

This is how one subnet can seek a new market without replacing its alpha. It is also a concentration of editorial power: whoever publishes that task list decides which models are useful this week and can make equipment optimized for yesterday’s problem less valuable.

Open miners still report through an operated scoring path

Eligible miners come from the on-chain registry, but their outputs are not rewarded by an autonomous chain vote. A runner creates or fetches reference answers, saves evaluations in R2, and a central validation process sends final weights through a signer; a blacklist can remove hotkeys.

Those controls can make incident response practical, but they place task selection, data availability and weight submission in a small operational path. Alpha holders receive exposure to the subnet pool and its emissions, not ownership of the task list, footage, models, stored results or customer agreements.

The live page tells two stories at once

At review, Bittensor marked SN44 health 31/100 and “abandoned,” and its metagraph summary showed zero miners. The same page showed thousands of holders, stake, trading, eight occupied validator slots and ongoing emissions.

TurboVision also merged a security change on August 26, 2026. Code maintenance and a live alpha market do not prove that customers are buying the video output; the abandoned label does not by itself prove a permanent shutdown. The defensible conclusion is that public operational evidence conflicts.

How the project changed

  1. 2024-11-29
    Subnet 44 is registered

The current Bittensor record dates SN44 and later records a transfer to the displayed owner.

  2. 2024-12-13
    Score Vision code history begins

A second repository shifts the paid task from match outcomes to tracking players, balls and officials in video.

  3. 2025-01-13
Score Vision targets its SN44 mainnet week

The roadmap places deployment on netuid 44 in this week; it is a workload rollout, not an ERC-20 issuance date.

  4. 2025-09-05
    TurboVision repository begins

A third codebase turns the single football task into configurable elements for live video and imagery.

  5. 2026-08-26
    TurboVision merges a security change

Repository maintenance continues even while the subnet profile labels the project abandoned.

What is Score?

Score is the alpha currency of Bittensor subnet 44 (SN44), displayed with the Hebrew letter pe. It is not an ERC-20 or equity in Score Technologies. Staking TAO in the subnet pool acquires alpha; unstaking sells it back through the pool, so both the exchange rate and slippage matter.

The work attached to that currency has changed twice. Score Predict rewarded football outcome forecasts. Score Vision rewarded tracking players, the ball and officials in match footage. TurboVision broadened the market to configurable live-video and image tasks, with professional sport as an early use.

What problem does Score solve?

The first network waited for a final score to judge whether a forecast was right. That was easy to verify but produced only a pre-match guess. Score Vision moved closer to a sellable product—structured match footage—but frame-by-frame labels are expensive to create and check.

TurboVision makes the assignment configurable. The operator chooses each “Element,” its cadence, evaluation window, reference data and reward share. That allows the subnet to pursue new buyers without issuing a new alpha, but it also means the holder is financing the operator’s next choice of problem rather than one permanent algorithm.

How does Score work?

A runner reads the active task list. For each element it fetches a challenge, uses either a real answer from an API or a locally generated SAM3 reference, scores eligible miners and writes the result to Cloudflare R2. A validator selects winners, combines their shares and sends on-chain weights through a signing service. A hotkey blacklist can exclude participants.

The subnet is open for registration, yet the task list, reference answers, blacklist, central validator and signer remain operational control points. The 18% owner cut is a share of protocol emissions, not a claim on company sales. At review, Bittensor simultaneously showed an “abandoned” health label, zero miners in one metagraph snapshot, active trading and emissions, while the repository had an August 2026 security merge. Those signals do not prove either customer activity or permanent shutdown.

Key facts

  • Score is the Dynamic TAO alpha currency of Bittensor subnet 44 (SN44), displayed with the Hebrew letter pe.
  • It is not an ERC-20 and does not represent equity in Score Technologies.
  • The rewarded job changed from football outcome prediction to football-video tracking and then configurable live-video and image tasks.
  • Staking TAO buys subnet alpha from its pool; unstaking sells alpha back, so price and slippage affect the result.
  • The official subnet page dates SN44 registration to November 29, 2024.
  • At review, the page showed an 18% owner cut, 256/256 neurons, eight occupied validator slots and zero miners in its metagraph snapshot.
  • Its health label said 31/100 and abandoned even while market, stake and emission data remained active; the public status was conflicting.

Frequently asked questions

Is Score an ERC-20?

No. It is the alpha currency of Bittensor subnet 44.

What do SN44 and pe mean?

SN44 is the subnet number; pe is the symbol its owner registered for the alpha currency.

What work does the current repository describe?

TurboVision scores models that turn live video and images into structured records, with professional sport as an early use.

Why do older sources discuss match predictions?

The same subnet moved from Score Predict to Score Vision and then TurboVision; the alpha identity followed the subnet.

Are 21 million alpha already circulating?

No. That figure is a displayed ceiling in Bittensor’s emission design, not the current circulating amount.

Does staking guarantee a profit in TAO?

No. Rewards are paid in alpha, whose price against TAO and exit slippage can change.

Is SN44 operating?

Public evidence conflicts: its profile says abandoned and showed zero miners, while trading, emissions, validator slots and recent code activity remained visible.
