What is Targon?

Targon is the name of Bittensor subnet 4 (netuid 4). An OSS Capital investor announcement says Manifold Labs registered and launched it in early October 2023. It is not a standalone layer-1 or a wrapped token: SN4 refers to the subnet and its native Bittensor alpha, currently identified on-chain as Targon with the δ symbol.

The current product is a confidential-compute cloud and marketplace. Targon’s website exposes GPU/CPU inventory, workload deployment and TVM-backed confidential virtual machines, while its provider documentation describes TargonOS miners and attestation-oriented validator infrastructure. What problem does Targon solve?

Targon targets the trust and utilization problems of running sensitive AI workloads on third-party or centralized infrastructure. Conventional encryption does not protect plaintext while a model or dataset is executing, and a customer normally has to rely on the cloud operator’s promises about hardware and software integrity. Targon’s stated approach is to combine hardware-backed confidential-compute features with remote attestation and an open provider marketplace.

Targon’s TVM/whitepaper materials describe Intel TDX confidential VMs and NVIDIA Confidential Compute/PPCIE, with validators checking attestation and network eligibility.
