A standard changed worlds—and changed contracts

AWE’s history is not a straight product launch. A 2019 tokenization standard became DAO infrastructure, then an engine for AI-agent worlds. The brand survived each turn, but the last turn required holders to cross from one contract and chain to another.

Before agents, a standard looking for a job

STP launched in 2019 around standards for tokenized assets. Its STPT token belonged to that first story, and a 2021 issuer update divided circulating units from reserves, community programs and team or adviser allocations.

STP then moved into identity systems and DAO tooling. The current history calls that period “governance rails,” but it does not establish that any earlier token utility remains active after the later rebrand.

The repeated change is the project’s central biography. STP kept a token community while rewriting what the surrounding software was for.

DAO coordination becomes an agent society

The project says a mid-2023 internal pivot turned from human organizations toward autonomous worlds. The January 2024 AWE litepaper proposed modular worlds where agents share persistent state and rules.

That framework is a stack, not a magic chain. Models and compute may run off-chain; contracts can anchor selected ownership, payments or adjudication. World.Fun and the project’s demonstrations are applications and issuer evidence, not independent proof of scale.

This distinction narrows the token claim. Software can use AWE without making a holder an owner of the software, and a simulation can exist without routing every computation through the token.

One-for-one, across unlike contracts

On 3 February 2025 the project announced that Snapshot proposal STP #9 had approved the AWE name and a 1:1 conversion. Its May 13 migration guide scheduled portal deposits from May 19 at 03:00 UTC, with Base AWE claims and trading from May 21 at 03:00 UTC. These are distinct steps in the announced schedule.

Conversion meant sending legacy Ethereum STPT and later claiming Base AWE. The verified new implementation initialized 2 billion units, whereas the rebrand announcement promised unchanged total supply of approximately 1.94 billion. The reviewed evidence does not reconcile those quantities. The closing notice separately says unclaimed migration allocations will face a community proposal; it does not prove that a reserve explains the difference.

On 20 August 2026 the project said about 99% had migrated and fixed 21 September as the end of eligibility. As of this review the deadline is still future. The owner-operated bridge remains a service dependency until remaining claims finish.

A ballot, a timelock and separate keys

AWE governance has visible rules: delegate votes, reach 4 million AWE to propose, meet a 200 million quorum, wait through a 3-day delay, vote for 10 days and pass a 7-day timelock. Snapshot community polls remain off-chain signals.

Those rules do not erase contract administration. The token’s admin can manage roles, the upgrader can replace implementation logic, and the migration bridge owner can add claims and withdraw. The reviewed evidence does not prove all those roles are held exclusively by the Governor and Timelock.

The holder’s defensible position is therefore narrower than the world-building language: transferable AWE, delegated voting subject to thresholds, and app utility where accepted. The interface terms preserve operator controls and Singapore-law arbitration; no reviewed document converts the token into equity, profit share, IP ownership or guaranteed redemption.

What is AWE Network?

AWE Network is the 2025 successor to STP Network. STP began in 2019 with a tokenization standard, later built Verse Network for DAO coordination, and pivoted in mid-2023 toward persistent simulations populated by AI agents. Its January 2024 litepaper named the new product idea the Autonomous Worlds Engine.

AWE is not a new base-layer chain. The AWE token is an ERC-20-style voting token on Base at 0x1b4617734c43f6159f3a70b7e06d883647512778, while the project’s software combines smart contracts with off-chain agent models, compute and applications such as World.Fun. The issuer’s claim that interactions “flow through AWE” describes intended ecosystem utility; it is not a contractual promise that every simulation or model call settles on-chain.

What problem does AWE Network solve?

AWE’s product thesis starts with a coordination problem: a multi-agent world must preserve shared state, decide which actions are valid and continue while human and machine participants enter or leave. The litepaper proposes modular simulation components rather than a general-purpose blockchain. Applications may record ownership, payments or verdicts on Base while inference and much of the simulation run elsewhere.

The identity problem is equally important. Existing STPT holders did not receive new rights by a ticker edit. They were offered a 1:1 migration in which legacy Ethereum STPT was sent through the official portal and AWE was claimed on Base. Brand continuity, token continuity and contract continuity are therefore different things.

How does AWE Network work?

The Base AWE deployment is a UUPS-upgradeable proxy. Its verified implementation initialized 2,000,000,000 AWE, grants DEFAULT_ADMIN_ROLE and UPGRADER_ROLE, supports permit and delegated voting, and limits implementation changes to the upgrader role. The reviewed sources did not fully reconcile the current holders of every privileged role; upgradeability must not be described as immutability.

The February 2025 rebrand announcement promised a 1:1 conversion with total supply unchanged at approximately 1.94 billion STPT to 1.94 billion AWE. The verified AWE implementation nevertheless initialized 2,000,000,000 tokens. The reviewed records do not reconcile that difference, so it cannot be attributed to a claim reserve or treated as proof of realized inflation. Separately, on 20 August 2026 the project reported about 99% migrated and set 21 September 2026 as the last eligibility date. It said the AWE allocated to migration but left unclaimed would be addressed by a later community proposal; that notice does not establish the size or cause of the discrepancy.

The official migration bridge is administratively operated. Its verified interface gives an owner functions to add claim records and withdraw assets, matching a portal that verifies a legacy transfer before enabling a Base claim. This is a controlled conversion service, not proof of an automatic trustless Base-to-Base bridge.

Governance requires holders to delegate voting power, including self-delegation. Official rules set a 4,000,000 AWE on-chain proposal threshold, 200,000,000 AWE quorum, a 3-day delay, 10-day vote and 7-day timelock. AFPs pass by simple majority; AGPs require For votes above twice Against votes. Snapshot community polls do not execute code by themselves.

The terms govern the website and interface under Singapore law and reserve suspension and intellectual-property rights to AWE Network while describing the protocol as third-party open-source software outside its control. Neither the terms nor token code grant company equity, profit share, redemption, ownership of AI models or guaranteed yield. AWE gives transfer and delegated governance capabilities plus application utility where a service actually accepts it.

Key facts

  • STP launched in 2019 and publicly pivoted toward autonomous worlds in mid-2023.
  • Snapshot proposal STP #9 approved the AWE rebrand announced on 2025-02-03.
  • AWE is on Base at 0x1b4617734c43f6159f3a70b7e06d883647512778; legacy Ethereum STPT is 0xde7d85157d9714eadf595045cc12ca4a5f3e2adb.
  • The migration was 1:1, but it exchanges legacy STPT for a separate Base contract rather than renaming one contract.
  • The verified AWE initializer created 2,000,000,000 tokens; the rebrand announcement promised unchanged total supply of approximately 1.94 billion. The discrepancy remains unreconciled.
  • The official closing notice sets 2026-09-21 as the last date for remaining STPT eligibility.
  • The AWE token is a UUPS proxy with admin and upgrader roles, not an immutable contract.
  • Voting power must be delegated; the on-chain proposal threshold is 4 million AWE and quorum is 200 million AWE.
  • The migration bridge owner can add claims and withdraw, so conversion depends on an operator-controlled service.
  • AWE ownership is not equity, revenue share, model ownership, redemption or guaranteed yield.

Frequently asked questions

Was STPT simply renamed AWE?

No. The community approved a rebrand, but holders also surrendered legacy Ethereum STPT and claimed a separate Base token at 1:1. The old and new contract addresses remain distinct.

Is AWE Network its own blockchain?

The reviewed product documents describe a modular simulation framework, and AWE is a token on Base. Agent inference and simulation can occur off-chain while selected state or payments use smart contracts.

Why do 1.94 billion and 2 billion both appear?

The rebrand announcement promised unchanged total supply of approximately 1.94 billion, while the verified initializer created 2 billion AWE. The reviewed records do not reconcile the difference. A later notice separately identifies unclaimed migration allocations for a future community proposal, but does not show that these explain the gap.

Can STPT still migrate?

As reviewed on 2026-09-04, the official notice says the window closes on 2026-09-21. After that date old STPT is ineligible under the announced process.

Can AWE be upgraded or newly minted?

The contract is upgradeable through UPGRADER_ROLE. The current reviewed implementation minted 2 billion during initialization and exposes no ordinary public mint, but an authorized upgrade could change future logic.

Does every AWE automatically vote?

No. Voting power counts only after delegation, including self-delegation. Proposals and quorum also face published token thresholds.

Is the migration bridge trustless?

Its owner can add claim records and withdraw. Users rely on the official operator to recognize the legacy transfer and enable a Base claim.

Does holding AWE give a share of World.Fun or AWE Network?

No such equity, dividend, revenue-share, model-ownership or redemption right appears in the reviewed contract or terms. Any app utility depends on that app’s rules.
